Real LifeCommitted to ensuring the safety, welfare and well-being of animals. Our leadership programs are first to serve in nurturing the bonds between animals and humans. American Humane is proud to be the first to serve animals whenever and wherever they are in need.
In the wake of the devastating floods in June that ravaged parts of West Virginia, American Humane deployed offering free first-aid and wellness checks to local pet owners, administering vaccines, and providing operational support to local animal shelters, which were completely overwhelmed with the volume of demand.
During this nine days, American Humane cared for hundreds of animals each day and helped countless others through the distribution of food and emergency supplies including a trio of orphaned, newborn kittens. This trio of tiny kittens were found huddled together on the lid of a trashcan; their mother, nowhere to be found, had not survived the extreme storms.
When the kittens arrived at the safety of our mobile clinic, they were trembling, covered in fleas and ticks, and swollen from painful parasitic infections. One of our dedicated first responders brought the kittens to sleep in her hotel room in order to provide them with around-the-clock care. Night after night, she woke up every three hours to bottle-feed each of the little cats, slowly nursing them back to health. We are pleased to report that the kittens, who all made full recoveries, are now living in the loving care of forever homes.
