To My Dear Friends at Houston Hospice:
There simply are not words to express how I feel about you, each and every one of you. For six weeks you were my family - - you cried with me, you gave me countless hugs, you counseled and fed me and those are just a very few of the ways you were there for me.
More important are the ways you were there for the love of my life, my Bill. When he was admitted to Houston Hospice. he said, "We made the right decision. This is good." And it was. In a few hours, his nausea and pain were gone. You treated him with gentleness and love as though he were a member of your own family. I watched as you turned him over carefully. I watched you bathe him and shave him with loving hands. Never once did I detect any impatience or hurry in your manner. You teased him lovingly and he liked that. It made him feel more like a worthwhile human and less like a dying patient. I am thankful I could stay at night and that I was holding Bill's hand when he died. I wish I were a millionaire so that I could give a huge monetary gift to Houston Hospice. That isn't the case, but I am enclosing a check for $100.00 in the hope that even a tiny drop in the bucket can help.
