Success Story

The Adolescent Girls Program in India is just one example of The Hunger Project's global efforts to ensure that all girls and women are empowered to achieve their full potential. In August 2017, a group of visionary adolescent girls embarked on an extraordinary journey from India’s state of Bihar to the state of Rajasthan to say ‘no’ to child marriage and promote women’s empowerment. The young girls were joined by a contingent of local partners, animators, staff and a film crew who documented the exciting initiative.

This was much more than just a physical journey: It was a peer-learning adventure. For many of the girls, this was the first time away from home and on a train. During their travels through Rajasthan, they interacted with local girls and engaged in conversations and learning activities about the need to end child marriage and empower girls so they can grow up to be educated, healthy and strong leaders in their communities.

Started in 2016, the program empowers girls with life skills training, promoting their engagement with governance systems and participation in local civic life.
