Success Story

“Coming to Chicago Women’s Health Center has changed it all for me completely,” shared Sangi, a recent client. Sangi had learned about our services through one of CWHC’s health education workshops, which she says “changed mine and many young girls' lives just in one hour.”

Before her first visit, Sangi was nervous. She had a complex history of sexual trauma and mistreatment in medical settings. “At CWHC,” Sangi said, “I was patiently cared for and my body was finally valued.”

Over the past 40 years, CWHC has expanded the services we provide while continuing to provide them on a sliding scale. We seek to make comprehensive health care and health education available to women, trans people, and young people regardless of their ability to pay. Our mission has been extended to include counseling, trans health care, sexual health education for young people, and more.

“I look forward to my health visits at the center now. It is my one of my happy places.” Sangi says. At CWHC, visits are usually an hour or more in order to build trust and fully address clients’ concerns and questions. By affirming clients’ lived experiences, practicing cultural competency, and using a respectful, compassionate approach to care, CWHC creates an environment in which people feel truly seen, heard, and supported in making informed decisions about what is best for their health and right for their bodies.
