Success Story

Rocky: A Diamond in the Rough

Like many adolescent dogs that are surrendered to Willamette Humane Society (WHS), Rocky was good-natured but lacked many basic skills and manners. A bundle of physical and mental energy, the 2-year-old Labrador Retriever mix barked and jumped wildly whenever people approached. He also lacked leash manners and was easily startled by strange noises.

WHS volunteers took Rocky under their wing and began working with him to build his confidence and improve his manners. They took him on outings and taught him how to sit and stay. Finally, after spending more than a month in the care of WHS, Rocky found his perfect match. "I knew when we first met him that he was a diamond in the rough," says Rocky's adopters. "He is going to be an amazing member of our family…In a few more weeks, I think that he will bloom into the wonderful family friend he was always meant to be." Thanks to donor and volunteer support, Willamette Humane Society helps thousands of pets like Rocky get the care and support they need until they find their forever new homes.
