Success Story

Because of you and other Mercy For Animals supporters and volunteers, we are making tremendous progress for farmed animals around the globe. We envision a world in which eating is an act of compassion, in which no one is exploited or forced to exploit another. This is the future our volunteers fight for.

In the United States and Canada, we focus on building strong communities in our hub cities: Los Angeles; San Francisco; Portland; Chicago; Detroit; Toronto; New York; and Washington, DC. Through these communities, we have been able to accomplish a lot, even just this year. 

In February, Mercy For Animals released hard-hitting investigative footage of egregious suffering at a chicken slaughterhouse supplying multinational restaurant chain Chipotle. Our volunteers took to the streets to demonstrate, spreading awareness and pressuring Chipotle to do better for animals. 

Using imaginative, visually arresting signs and props, including inflatable chicken costumes, hazmat suits, and screens showing the footage, we moved one of the world’s largest restaurant chains to reinstate their pledge to eliminate one of the cruelest practices in industrial animal agriculture: live-shackle slaughter.

Our people are our power. We meet institutional control with grassroots resourcefulness, creativity, and determination. Through building strong communities, developing leadership and skills, and taking consistent action, we’re strengthening the movement that will end factory farming.
