Success Story

How does one define a successful capital campaign? By the money raised; the relationships formed; and the impact it has on people in the community? The Campaign for the New Ocean View Library has achieved all of the above. With an original fundraising goal of $267,000, the campaign has raised over $490,000!

Because of overwhelming generosity, Ocean View will have a library with computers, printers, scanners, new furniture, bookshelves and other improvements making it an important education center.

None of this could have been achieved without a dedicated group of residents who convinced Mayor Brown to commit $2.5 million to a new facility and with the help of the Friends & Foundation, started fundraising for interior improvements.

Adding to this success is the Ocean View Branch Manager. Dorothy Coakley spent hours speaking on behalf of the Library and its patrons; she has hundreds of stories about small victories that have changed lives forever.

"Donations have exceeded $35,000, with hundreds of letters and checks not only from California, but also from places like Illinois and Kansas," reports Paola Muggia Stuff, coordinator of the campaign for the Friends & Foundation. "To date, $450,000 in grants have also come from corporations and foundations."
