My life was shattered by domestic abuse. With the help of Building Futures, I have my life back.

When my batterer and I got together, I was a business owner. Over time, he isolated me from friends and family, until all I had was him. A few months later, I was not only abused, I was broke; the business I'd spent years building, destroyed.

I moved across the country to get away. My batterer followed. Soon thereafter, I arrived at Alta Bates Medical Center, severely beaten. My abuser told the nurse I'd fallen off a cliff, hiking. It was the hospital staff who called the police. Early the next morning, when my abuser arrived at the hospital, he was arrested.

The hospital staff connected me with a group that escorted me to a local motel, and put me in touch with Building Futures.

I was overjoyed to be accepted into a safe place in a secret location. At Sister Me Home, I was given a clean room and time to begin healing. I met weekly with a caring case manager. When my stay was up, Building Futures helped me secure housing.
