Success Story

A Survivor Story

My name is Jana. I am a survivor of domestic violence. I was with my abuser for 5 years. He hurt me physically, emotionally and mentally. He hit on me many times and I have the scars to prove it. After enduring this abuse for what seemed like forever I finally worked up the courage to call the police and he went to prison. It has taken me a really long time to heal from the emotional scars but me and my 5 kids are getting there. The one scar that I cannot heal on my own is my physical appearance - it reminds me every day of what my life was and I am very self conscious. My glasses sit lopsided on my broken nose and I have a hard time breathing. I have a 4" scar on my forehead where he hit me with an empty vodka bottle when I was in the shower. My top lip sags is it is bigger than the rest of my mouth. I have applied to the NCADV's Cosmetic & Reconstructive Support program hoping you can help me look normal. Please help me get rid of the 24 hour reminder of getting hit. I have no one else to turn to. Please help!
NCADV Vision

The vision of NCADV is to create a culture where domestic violence is not tolerated; and where society empowers victims and survivors, and holds abusers accountable.
NCADV Mission

The National Coalition Against Domestic Violence (NCADV) is the voice of victims and survivors. We are the catalyst for changing society to have zero tolerance for domestic violence. We do this by effecting public policy, increasing understanding of the impact of domestic violence, and providing programs and education that drive that change.
