Success Story
Rebuilding Together Saves a Family Home.A San Francisco native, Tonya grew up in the house that her father bought for $11,000. When she was two years old she contracted meningitis and slipped into a coma. She awoke to find both of her feet had been amputated; now she has prosthetics that allow her to walk. Despite those challenges Tonya recalls having a wonderful childhood.
Both of Tonya's parents have now passed away, and she is raising her three daughters and one grandchild in the family home. Tonya enjoys tending her flowers, gardening, cooking, and spending time with her family. She misses her father very much because they used to do everything together. The upkeep of their home is her greatest concern. Tonya wants to be sure that she can pass the home on to her daughters. Rebuilding Together San Francisco was happy to help Tonya honor her father's memory by providing repairs to keep her and her girls safe in their family home.
On Rebuilding Day, a team from Salesforce.com joined builder Pat Loughran and Joel Micucci to provide extensive repairs on Tonya's home. They completely renovated the old kitchen and bathroom that were literally falling apart, used reclaimed cabinetry in the kitchen, removed mildew from the children's bedroom and painted it a bright pink, and painted the living room and dining room. Tonya says she can't believe her good luck, and she and her daughters are thrilled with their "new home!"
