Success Story

Jacob, age 12 Half Moon Bay

I wish to go to Kauai

Jacob is a bright, energetic boy who lives with a brain tumor. When his wish grantors came to visit him, he knew exactly what he wanted for his wish. He wanted to take his family to the island of Kauai for a true Hawaiian adventure.

His trip began with a sailing excursion off the coast of Kauai. Jacob was able to sit on what he called the "trampoline," which stretched across the front of the sailboat. From this unique perspective he could see (and be splashed by) the marine life playing around the boat. He was amazed to see dolphins, turtles, whales, and an endangered monk seal.

Jacob's adventure continued with a guided kayaking trip down the Hanalei River. He and his family had beached their kayaks at Hanalei Bay when Jacob was approached by Ali Kai Kinimaka, who gave Jacob a conch shell as a gift. This was a great honor because Ali Kai is from a very old and prominent native Hawaiian family that lives on the island. His mom described this as one of the many "magical moments" that occurred during their trip, which left Jacob beaming and has helped to keep his whole family strong during his treatment.
