One of our CIS Site Coordinators assisted a kindergarten student who lives with his grandmother. The grandmother is in hospice care and is immobile. The Site Coordinator helped the family register the child for school, takes the child to and from school, and arranges transportation for him when she is unable to since there is no bus service. She made laminated instructions for the child and medical responders on contacting Hospice workers and caring for the child in an emergency. She taught him how to use the phone and answer the door when appropriate. The Site Coordinator helped with getting an electronic key lock installed in the home and taught the child to learn the key code and open/lock the door himself. Once he gets home from school, he has a routine that the Site Coordinator has helped establish. CIS has secured resources for the family such as Meals on Wheels, food, and a small Christmas tree for the holidays. Wherever there is a need, CIS works hard to meet it.
