Success Story

Jerry's Story

On July, 26 1985, Lance Corporal Jerry McNeal was in the Marine Corps stationed at Camp LeJuene in North Carolina. Jerry will never forget that date because it was on July 26 that Jerry was hit by a drunk driver, leaving him wheelchair bound a head injury for the rest of his life.

Camp Courageous was fortunate over two decades ago to be instrumental in the beginnings of the Iowa Head Injury Association. As many as two weeks a year have been set aside specifically for individuals with head injuries to attend camp. Like Jerry, each camper brings a story to camp about how their lives were changed in a matter of minutes. Being around others with similar injuries for just a little while each year is precious to them. Jerry's sense of humor and jokes make him a joy to be around. He and everyone at Camp Courageous is grateful for your support.
