Success Story
Hello. My name is Davidson, and I'm a Black Cat (although I do have white whiskers and paws). I'm quite a handsome fellow, if I do say so myself. But when it comes to getting adopted, black is bad. People tend to shy away from adopting black cats. Maybe it's a superstition thing, but the odds are a black cat will be put down rather than picked up for adoption at a shelter.
I should know. After spending a year on the streets after I was left abandoned on a curb by my first staff person, animal control picked me up and took me to the shelter. They fed me there and nursed me back to health and put me in a viewing cage. Lots and lots of people came by. I tried my best to look loveable, but no one adopted me. After two months my time was up. The shelter needed my cage for another cat, one that had a better chance of being chosen.
As a last ditch effort, one of the shelter volunteers called Cats On Death Row. "We have to put Davidson down if you don't come and rescue him," she said. But someone from Cats On Death Row DID come. I was saved.
Now I live in a wonderful house by the sea with lots of windows to let me watch the gulls and with nice people staff who love me and feed me and play with me. I'm a happy cat. Alive.
