Success Story
At the SF/SPCA, we depend exclusively on the generosity and support of fellow animals lovers to provide new homes, needed medical care, and a host of other humane and compassionate services to the animals we all love so much. Animals like Koko, who came to the San Francisco SPCA shelter along with another male black Labrador and their five puppies - all of them victims of the current foreclosure crisis. Koko's human family had lost their home and could no longer afford to care for Koko and family. Koko was in bad health, weighing less than 40 lbs even though she was still nursing her puppies. Because she was so emaciated, Koko entered the SF/SPCA's foster care program and gradually regained her health. After weeks of care, Koko's weight increased and she was healthy enough to be adopted. She didn't have to wait long! Within a month after her arrival back at the SF/SPCA shelter, she was adopted by a wonderful couple. All of Koko's puppies were also successfully adopted into happy, loving homes! Thanks to SF/SPCA staff, volunteers and a community of dedicated supporters, many more animals like Koko find the loving homes they deserve.
The SF/SPCA is a private, independent, not-for-profit animal welfare agency dedicated to saving and protecting animals, providing them with care and treatment, advocating for their welfare, and enhancing the human-animal bond.
