Success StoryThe crowd erupts into a loud roar! Challenger the Bald Eagle spreads his wings and soars through the stadium as a soulful rendition of the Star Spangled Banner in sung from the 50-yard line. He swoops! He circles! Then, the crowd grows silent as he makes his final descent. He lands on his trainer's glove as the very last word of the National Anthem resonates through the stadium. Thousands of people wipe tears from their eyes, touched by the sight of our living Symbol of Freedom soaring through the sky.
The American Eagle Foundation is a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organization whose mission is to protect and preserve the American Bald Eagle and other birds of prey. For 28 years, the AEF has carried out its mission through Preservation, Repopulation, Education, & Rehabilitation.
The AEF cares daily for over 80 "non-releasable" Bald Eagles and other birds of prey. These birds have permanent physical disabilities or have become human "imprinted" or "socialized," rendering them incapable of surviving and hunting in the wild on their own.
A Breed and Release program has allowed the AEF to hatch eggs from "non-releasable" Bald Eagle breeding pairs and release their young into the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains. The AEF has released over 130 juvenile, captive-hatched Bald Eagles into the wild so far!
The AEF works with Dolly Parton and her Dollywood theme park in an effort to educate the public. Its "Wings of America" bird of prey show at Dollywood has been seen by millions!
Through the years, the AEF has rehabilitated hundreds of injured eagles and other birds-of- prey and released them back into the wild, giving them a second chance.
