Success Story
Kenai and his two sisters came to Hearts United for Animals after a Good Samaritan found them alone and struggling to survive. Their mother had been struck and killed on a highway, leaving the frightened puppies orphaned with no one to protect or care for them. By the time they arrived at HUA, they were underweight, covered in fleas and ticks, and in desperate need of medical care and nourishment.
Despite everything he had endured, Kenai's gentle spirit remained. Though shy and uncertain at first, it didn't take long for him to realize he was finally safe. With nutritious meals, veterinary care, and the patience and kindness of HUA staff and volunteers, he slowly began to trust again. Day by day, the frightened little puppy gave way to the playful, affectionate companion he was always meant to be.
Sadly, Kenai's story is not unique. Every year, countless animals arrive at HUA after being abandoned, orphaned, or left to fend for themselves. Many require extensive medical treatment, vaccinations, and weeks or months of rehabilitation before they are ready to begin their new lives.
Rescues like Kenai's remind us why our work is important. Healing frightened animals takes time, dedication, and significant resources, but watching them discover safety, comfort, and love makes every effort worthwhile. In February, Kenai's journey came full circle when he was adopted into a loving forever home, where he now enjoys the life every dog deserves.
Thank you for supporting Hearts United for Animals and our mission of rescue, rehabilitation, and rehoming. Because of your generosity, animals like Kenai are given a second chance—and the opportunity to write their own happy ending.
