Success StoryKathleen, a retired nurse, says she has the best prescription to cure loneliness. "My cat, of course." And to see Kathleen and her cat Samantha together is to understand why. Perhaps it is because her cat Samantha, an adult tortoiseshell, knew all too well what it was like to be alone in the world. Perhaps this lady and this cat found solace and a friend in each other, filling the emptiness that each had felt. Samantha's troubles began when her owners surrendered the beautiful long-haired cat to us. She was passed by time and again by prospective owners who preferred kittens. She was in desperate need of a home - her time was running out.
Kathleen, on the other hand, had a cozy place to call home, but no one to come home to. At 79, she had outlived two loving husbands and her children were grown and moved away. With plenty of extra room in her home and plenty of extra love in her heart, Kathleen set out in search of a new companion. She headed straight for the shelter at St. Hubert's.
