“This food really helps my family a lot. It means a lot. And what I can’t use in my house I give it to my neighbors because everybody’s suffering.”  

Jeanne is a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who regularly visits food distributions at ACCFB’s partner Shiloh Mercy House to pick up food to cook for her family. 

“When you go to the store, you can spend at least $60 on a day’s meal. Who’s got that kind of money,” she asks.  

With the high cost of living in the area, food from ACCFB helps Jeanne cook healthy meals for her intergenerational household like greens, roasted chicken, rice, cornbread, and yams.  

Improving our work starts with listening to feedback from those of us impacted most. With feedback they received from their own clients, Shiloh Mercy House shifted their distributions to provide more fresh produce as opposed to shelf-stable goods, produce that families like Jeanne’s enjoy in their meals together.  

In addition to caring for her family, Jeanne is friendly and open with everyone she meets—she even keeps children's books in the basket of her mobility scooter to share with kids she meets at the distribution and in her neighborhood.
