Success Story
Where would you turn if…
The father of your newborn baby beat you repeatedly;
Then accused you of abuse;
And asked the court to take your baby away?
This is Shannon's real story. When Shannon thought she had nowhere to turn, Family Violence Law Center (FVLC) was there to help. After hearing Shannon's story, it was immediately clear to us that she was the person being abused and not the other way around, as Mark had argued in his petition for a restraining order against Shannon. Several FVLC attorneys pulled together to file multiple motions and legal paperwork on Shannon's behalf.
FVLC's legal team filed a motion to immediately return the baby to his mother and get the restraining order against Shannon dismissed. We also helped Shannon obtain a five-year domestic violence restraining order protecting her and the baby from Mark. In addition, she was granted sole legal and physical custody, so that she would no longer have to worry about Mark trying to use their baby as a weapon against her. If FVLC had not intervened, it is unlikely that Shannon and her baby would have been safely reunited.
Your support helps to keep victims like Shannon safe and prevent abuse in the future. Please help us create a future without domestic violence.
