The San Francisco Bay Area Council, BSA provides opportunities for youth to participate in an effective Scouting program designed to build character, citizenship and fitness.
Success StoryThe San Francisco Bay Area Council is especially proud of one particular Scoutreach participant. His name is Geoffrey Mitchell. Geoffrey came from a very difficult environment as he grew up in the inner city of Oakland, California. By his own admission Geoffrey was involved with many situations and people that would eventually lead to jail or his death. Geoffrey's mother was able to enroll him in Boy Scout Troop # 299 Chartered to the Beth Eden Baptist Church in Oakland which saved his life. Geoffrey Mitchell went on to earn his Eagle Scout rank in 2005 and excelled academically in high school to the point that he is now attending the University of California on an Incentive Honors Scholarship. He also was one of 50 inner city high school students in the nation to be recognized as a Bill and Melinda Gates Millennium Scholar.
