Comedian Josh Blue Visits Denver Jewish Day School
When David Last's teacher pulled him out of class at Denver Jewish Day School, he had no idea he was about to meet his role model: professional comedian and celebrity Josh Blue.
Blue was the winner of NBC's Last Comic Standing in 2006. He also has cerebral palsy. David, a fifth grader at Denver JDS, has CP as well. During the summer of 2006, David endured a major surgery and spent several weeks in bed. David's mom would climb into his hospital bed, and the two of them would watch Last Comic Standing, as well as Blue's rise to fame.
When Terri Otto, David's teacher at Denver JDS, learned that David always had looked up to Blue and that Blue lived here in Denver, she contacted his agent, Mike Raftery.
When David and Blue met, David asked what it was like for Blue to grow up with CP; Blue was the only one in his school with CP, and so is David. David talked about his experiences as well.
Afterwards, Blue spoke to the entire fifth grade. When asked if he was going to do a comedy act during an upcoming visit to Japan, Blue replied, "Me just walking around the streets of Japan is a comedy act." After that joke, David's smile was the biggest in the room.
Denver JDS is Denver's only community K-12 Jewish day school offering a unique model for wisdom and achievement.
