Founded in 1978, Ronald McDonald House Houston provides care, compassion and hope to families with seriously ill children being treated at Texas Medical Center member institutions.
Each year, thousands of children are treated in Houston for serious illnesses. Often, they travel long distances for treatment and, for their families, anxiety over the child's illness is compounded by lengthy hospital stays, months of outpatient treatment, and the expense of being away from home.
From the time that the Ronald McDonald House of Houston opened its doors in 1981 the mission has been to offer a home away from home to the families of these children while they undergo treatment for cancer and other serious illnesses at a Texas Medical Center institution.
Today, Ronald McDonald House operates several locations to offer home-like services to these children and their families:
* 50-bedroom House on Holcombe Boulevard
* 20-bedroom House inside Texas Children's Hospital
* Two Family Rooms inside Texas Children's Hospital
* Cookie Corner inside M.D. Anderson Hospital
Ronald McDonald House answers the special needs of many, many families by offering loving, home-like environments where they can find support from one another as they share experience with others who are also undergoing the trauma of childhood illness.
