Success Story

I am a Habitat homeowner. I grew up where we had to keep our doors locked. We were afraid to go outside. I remember several murders in our neighborhood. I dreamed of living in a tight knit community where neighbors look out for each other. 

I am vision impaired with other medical conditions. My family told me I would not amount to anything. I knew all I would have to depend upon was my faith.

For 18 years I lived in apartments that cost way too much. One day riding on the bus, I saw a sign for Habitat for Humanity. I applied, got accepted and started my sweat equity hours. 

I enjoyed helping build my own home - I couldn't do a lot of construction, but I was there every step of the way assisting however I could. I can't tell you how grateful I am to all the volunteers and sponsors who helped me build my home. 

My home has means the world to me. I watch out for my neighbors, I mow my own lawn and pay my affordable mortgage payments. 

I'm proud to be a part of such a good organization.
