Success Story

" I don't run into the furniture anymore. The bruises are gone. Riding has improved my balance so much." (an adult rider, who was recently diagnosed with multiple sclerosis). "You be my eyes, and I will be your legs." A conversation recently overheard between two children, one with cerebral palsy and a wheelchair-user, the other blind. How resourceful! "How high up is heaven?" A child, who rides at TRRC and who has been blind since birth, asked me that question recently. We pondered together where heaven could be. She pressed on, "Do you store dreams there, is it magical, or is it just a little above your heart?" Together we concluded heaven is community filled with children we care about and believe in, "to hear what I am saying, not how it sounds, to love more by the heart than by the eye, to prepare children to have awe and wonderment in their lives, to care about nature's marvels, to find significance in simple things, that loving relationships, NOT things make human beings happy." How about the child, who told me she lost her best friend to cancer, but "gained an angel instead." Or the child telling me, "animals make me laugh and bring the outside in." "Believe in us, that all on crutches will still grow wings every week, those without speech will tell epic stories, the timid will sit like queens and kings on the thrones of their saddles, and the lonely will find a family of caring people and horses, who cherish them."
