Success Story

Djaho Adjo, the president of Klouékanmè Epicenter in Benin, has seen the positive impacts on her community since engaging in work with The Hunger Project. The Hunger Project’s Epicenter Strategy in Africa is a holistic, community-led approach that supports communities to address the nexus of issues linked to ending hunger.

Djaho’s epicenter in Benin reaches more than 11,000 people, with programs to improve food access and nutrition, the rights of women and girls, health care and sanitation, and more. Women no longer have to walk far to give birth, resulting in improved infant and maternal health outcomes. Children are stronger and healthier thanks to better education on food and nutrition, and girls are marrying later in life due to an increased knowledge of the dangers of child marriages.

Djaho described how far her community has come and understands that achieving self-reliance is within reach. "I see that poverty is decreasing here. I am proud and very happy with what we have achieved together — as a community.”
