Success Story

I would like to thank you again for coming to Catholic and presenting such an important, relevant topic. We are trained as Resident Assistants at Catholic to be able to handle suicidal and depressed residents. I have handled several such situations in the past, however nothing as unique as the situation I handled last week. At 2:30am the very night of your presentation to us, my residents came to me with a situation. Their friend who is not a student at Catholic called them and said he felt depressed and alone and was threatening to cut his wrists. They were very concerned about him. Because their friend was not a student at Catholic, I could not refer them to our counseling center or any other campus resources that I have been trained to rely on. I spoke with my residents and gave them some information on depression and suicide (much of it from your presentation!). I gave them the number to the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline and told them to give it to their friend and use it themselves if they need help with the situation. They reported to me later that they spoke with their friend. He did call the Lifeline, and is seeking help. My residents are supporting their friend and hopefully everything will turn out alright. I wanted you to know I completely agree with you. Coincidence is God's way of staying anonymous. Thanks for all that you do.
