Meals on Wheels drivers provide more than the nutritional content of the food. They also provide a daily check-in and are often the life-line for their clients when they have a health emergency. "My 86 year-old client, Mildred, always left her door open for my daily visit," San Leandro driver Marvin said. "One day I discovered the door was jammed. I somehow managed to get it open and there was Mildred on the floor in a lot of pain. I called 911, got her a pillow and blanket, and stayed with her until the paramedics arrived. It turned out that she had fallen and broken her hip!" Mildred told Marvin that she didn't panic because she knew he would be there soon; she believes he saved her life.
