Success Story

A microboard is formed when a small group of committed family members and friends join together with a person with a disability to create a nonprofit organization that helps that person to realize and achieve their hopes and dreams. The Arc of Texas' newest innovative program, The Texas Microboard Collaboration, is now supporting more than 30 microboards. One of the first microboards in Texas helped a woman named Karen who was living an isolated life in a nursing facility to move into her own home near a church with a large signing community. She is now actively involved in the church, leading a much more fulfilled life, and able to communicate with those around her.
