In November 2018, the most devastating wildfire in California history nearly wiped out the small town of Paradise. RedRover Responders partnered with North Valley Animal Disaster Group (NVADG) to provide shelter and care for nearly 200 beloved family pets at a temporary emergency shelter run by Haven Humane Society.
Shari was on vacation when she received a frantic call from her 30-year-old autistic son’s caretaker that their house was on fire and they could only find two of the three family dogs. Shari rushed home while the caretaker fled the house with Shari’s son and the two dogs.
As soon as she arrived home, Shari went to all the animal shelters in her area to see if her missing dog, Cooper, was there -- but he was nowhere to be found. Then, an animal control officer overheard her talking about Cooper and recognized the name. He told Shari that he had pulled Cooper out from under her burned house and had taken him to the temporary emergency shelter where RedRover Responders volunteers were providing tender love and care for evacuated pets.
When Shari and Cooper were finally reunited, Cooper greeted Shari with overjoyed tail wags and kisses. Shari was happy to learn that, miraculously, Cooper had not suffered any burns or injuries. Despite losing her home and belongings, Shari was so incredibly grateful that all three dogs were safe and back together again.
Thanks to the generosity of people like you, our RedRover Responders volunteers cared for Cooper and many more beloved pets who were suddenly displaced by the Carr Fire. Supporting RedRover saves lives and keeps families together. Please select RedRover for your Combined Federal Campaign donations for 2020.
