Success Story
In Kenya today, there are untold numbers of teenagers whose greatest desire in life is to complete their education.Among them is Emmanuel, a Form 2 (sophomore) at the prestigious Kapsabet High School. Founded in 1925, it is one of the oldest high schools in the country. In 2014, the school was ranked second in the national exams, the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE). Notable alumni include Daniel Arap Moi, the second president of Kenya, and William Ruto, the deputy president of Kenya since 2013.
Emmanuel was abandoned by his mother at age 2, and along with his older brother and sister, were placed at the Lewa Children's Home, supported by Bread and Water for Africa®, where he and his siblings found a loving home and were provided with all the necessities of life.
He started his education in nursery school at the age of 4 and studied for 8 years at the nearby Kipkeino Primary School, which was constructed by Bread and Water for Africa®.
He exceled in his KCSE exams and was accepted to Kapsabet - quite an achievement considering that in 2015 of the 60,000 boys who applied, only 300 were accepted!
"I write this letter to really appreciate for sponsoring me for if it wouldn't have been for you, I wouldn't be where I am," Emmanuel told us. "This comes from the bottom of my heart. I promise to work hard at school and post good results as hard work pays.
"Moreover, I promise to respect my guardians and not let you down," he added.
And we have absolutely no doubt that Emmanuel won't let us down.
