Success Story

In the beginning, the Healthy Vegetarian Food Bank received a small grant and reached out to local food pantries, asking if they could use extra produce and legumes to offer their clients.
While most of the people we help are not vegetarian, we only offer plant foods. The Erie City Outreach Center needed more produce and welcomed us to help them. Our Director Katherine Green set up a table offering potatoes, onions, carrots and split peas for soup. We helped them for nine months, until they had to close their pantry. Not long after, the Mental Health Association offered us a room at their business to have a food pantry there. We were open for four years.
As we became more known in our community, social service agencies started contacting us, asking if we would provide food for their clients. We are committed to helping approximately 500 people each month on a shoestring budget.
Our work is a labor of love, helping people, saving animals and we also help to reduce global warming. Can you help us today by making a donation?
