Real Life

In April of 2009, Corporal Christian Brown joined the United States Marine Corps. He followed in the footsteps of his maternal grandfather, who served as a Commander in the Navy, and his paternal grandfather, who was an enlisted member of the Marine Corps. In December of 2009, he was deployed to Marjah, Afghanistan, during one of the most notable surges in OIF/OEF history. After safely returning home from his first deployment, he was once again deployed to Afghanistan in July of 2011. During his second deployment, Christian led 163 combat missions as a squad leader and was meritoriously promoted to Corporal while in country.

On December 13, 2011, Christian stepped on an IED (improvised explosive device) in Kajaki, Afghanistan. Injuries he sustained include multi-trauma to both hands and arms, amputation of right leg below the hip joint, left leg amputation above the knee, several internal injuries, battles with pneumonia, and blast wounds requiring skin grafts. From May of 2012 through November of 2014, Christian was involved in intensive rehabilitation involving occupational therapy, physical therapy, pain management, and extracurricular activities at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center.

After providing over 30 flights, Christian is now back home in Tennessee. "Luke's Wings has helped me by allowing my family to be there every step of the way. My recovery process has not been easy, but it's a relief to know I'll have the support of Luke's Wings, an organization that truly cares about the people they help."
