Real Life

Make-A-Wish® grants the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength and joy.

Make-A-Wish is the world's largest wish-granting organization. Make-A-Wish International grants wishes in more than 50 countries outside the United States, while Make-A-Wish America grants wishes in every community across the United States. With the help of generous donors and more than 40,000 volunteers worldwide, Make-A-Wish grants a wish somewhere in the world every 17 minutes on average. Since 1980, it has granted more than 415,000 wishes to children around the world.

Every day, hundreds of children worldwide are diagnosed with a critical illness. That's hundreds of children and their families who will spend too much time talking to doctors instead of friends; and too much time in hospitals rather than on playgrounds. But because of you, those children and families will experience resilience and renewal through a wish-come-true.

A wish-come-true helps children feel stronger, more energetic, more willing and able to battle their critical illness. For many, the wish marks a turning point in the fight against their illnesses. Here are a few examples of wishes we have recently granted in the countries we serve: * I wish to fly like a butterfly | Claudia, 6, Italy
* I wish to learn pastry making at Le Cordon Bleu | Ka-mei, 17, Hong Kong
* I wish to see the Chilean dinosaur, "Chilesaurus diegosuarezi" | Gabriel, 6, Chile
* I wish to go on a caravan trip with my family | Neta, 13, Israel

"This opportunity was my strength and motivation to get through the surgery and treatment!" -- wish kid, Ka-mei
