About

Save Our Historic Ground! Contributions purchase threatened battlefields at Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville, Spotsylvania and Wilderness. Low administrative costs ensure donations are used for dirt and grass.

Real Life

CVBT is one of the most successful, regional land preservation organizations in the country. With a membership in excess of 700, from almost all 50 states, the organization has saved a remarkable total of 900 acres of Civil War battlefields encompassing the Battles of Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville, Spotsylvania and the Wilderness. Many of these sites would now be paved over had it not been for the efforts of CVBT. With only one part time employee, CVBT is a lean organization ensuring that a high percentage of contributions are allocated towards the acquisition of dirt and grass.

In making a substantial donation to CVBT, a Roundtable recently commented, They have a proven track record in successful historic preservation as well as the efficient use of donations.

A member writes, Not only is the organization helping to preserve American history, but it is also providing publicity for the importance of our past. I am proud to say that I am a contributing member of this organization and that my children will be able to experience this land and all that it means.

CVBT was a recipient of the Civil War Preservation Trust's coveted Brian C. Pohanka Preservation Organization of the Year Award. The organization's President, Jim Lighthizer, called the CVBT, The best grass roots land preservation group in the US. He also stated CVBT was a great partner organization. Central Virginia Battlefields Trust's accomplishments are outstanding. The $1 million pledge to Slaughter Pen was an astonishing feat for a group CVBT's size.
