About

1 in 3 children are overweight. Nutrition education and physical activity make the difference. Using soccer, we improve the lives of youth from underserved communities.

Real Life

Did you know??

  • According to the White House Task Force on Childhood Obesity, 1 out of 3 children between the ages of 2-19 is overweight or obese.
  • MENTOR, the national mentoring partnership, reports that there are over 15 million youth in need of a mentor.

The U.S. Soccer Foundation is addressing these issues through our sports-based youth development program Soccer for Success. Our program uses soccer as a hook to engage children from low-income, urban communities through an evidence based curriculum that increases their nutritional knowledge and physical activity in a safe mentored environment where coaches/mentors help children develop important life skills.

Community members, who are not directly involved with Soccer for Success, have seen the impact the program is having in their community. "After Soccer for Success, I can honestly say that all the students involved in that gang activity were no longer involved," shared Ms. Aguilar the Assistant Principal at Patrick Henry Middle School, a Soccer for Success site in Houston. "Instead, they belong to a new team called: Soccer for Success. They were meeting after school to play soccer and they voluntarily stayed for tutorials."

This past year, we improved the lives of 8,000 youth in 10 cities across the country. Next year, if we receive enough support from caring people like you, we will expand to meet the needs of 15,000 youth from low income communities across 19 cities.
