Israel's Red Cross. We provide emergency medical, disaster, ambulance, blood services and paramedic training - First responders providing care and treatment for victims of terror attacks.
Yossi Cohen, an MDA Sderot employee for 33 years and a long-time resident of the city, was the first on-scene MDA team member who attended to a woman who sustained severe injuries as a result of the May 16, 2007 Qassam attacks.
"We received the alert of a Qassam attack from the Gaza Strip in the evening. I found one female casualty lying on the floor, with various injuries. There were three bombs that night and we attended to all of them - and that's more or less the way it went on all day long."
Unfortunately Yossi is no stranger to the damage a Qassam can cause. His daughter, son-in-law and baby grandson sustained injuries from a rocket attack that hit their home. His grandson sustained the most severe injuries." My grandson's head injuries - he's had two surgical procedures, skull reconstruction and has a permanent attached to his head. He now goes to therapy twice a week (Yossi himself takes his grandson to these sessions).
"I know everyone and their families by name. I hurt a little every time there's another casualty in Sderot. I know what they're going through," says Cohen. "These days are very difficult days. Every day I go to work and do my best for MDA. I believe that there are 'Better Days Ahead.'" Magen David Adom, Saving Lives in Israel
