FFA, these three letters have had an amazing impact on my life. I didn't know what I was getting into my freshman year when I started with FFA; but after a few meetings and activities I knew it was going to do something great for me. FFA became one of my biggest dedications. I was serving as treasurer for our chapter that year and was very proud to do so. I jumped on any and every opportunity to inform people about FFA, whether that meant doing radio spots or speaking to a middle school class. I was proud to be wearing my blue corduroy jacket. I became even more involved with FFA and made it to state in four different competitions; one of which my team placed first and represented Nebraska at the 2011 National FFA Convention. At that moment I was so happy I had taken the risk and joined FFA. At our annual FFA banquet that year I was awarded a scholarship to go to the Washington Leadership Conference. I was ecstatic to say the least. The time came and I boarded my plane to DC. That is a week I will never forget. I learned that one person truly can make a difference. I experienced the pain that people in other countries go through every day by simply having only rice for a meal along with how others struggle all over the world. I decided to do something about it. I started my Living to Serve plan which was making paracord bracelets and selling them for Operation Smile. Since I have started I have raised close to $500 for Operation Smile and have paid for two children to have their cleft lips fixed. FFA has taught me to change lives. That is the reason I am so proud to wear that blue corduroy jacket.
